For those that have decided to walk into the world of technology, they may be overwhelmed by the types of knowledge that are available.  There are several code languages and words as well as different areas that you can move into.  If you are a beginner in technology, you can find programs that will help you to move past the first level.  Learning basic PC skills through IT Certification is an easy way to begin to understand the several levels and languages of technology.  However, before deciding to get IT Certification for basic PC skills, you will want to narrow down which types of PC skills you will want to get.

The first types of basic skills that you will be able to get are related to PC fundamentals.  A PC is short for personal computer, meaning that you will learn everything about the computer that you need to use.  This will teach you the basics of how to use a computer.  It will also allow you to understand how the computers can function and what types of things they can do.  If you have never used a computer before, you can also become certified with a keyboarding class.  This not only helps to learn the basics to make typing easier, but can also allow you tips and techniques to build your speed when typing.  This certification is also good to look into if you are in a work area that requires a certain speed when typing.

If you have already moved past the basics of PC skills, then there are other classes that you may be interested in.  Several vendors that offer the IT Certification will also provide classes on expanding basic knowledge for certain types of software.  One of these areas will focus on learning how to file different types of information with the best programs.  You may also be able to learn easier ways to compute, with specific tools given in relation to programs available on your computer.  There are various types of software and hardware that make saving and receiving information easier to put into the computer and save.

Basic PC skills may also offer beginning areas that will lead to the other courses being offered.  For example, if you are interested in graphics, the basic PC skills can offer you introductory courses to what is available.  You may also be able to find quick guides for things such as how to use a digital camera or how to use other external sources for your personal computer.  These can all help you to begin to move into the world of technology.

Within each of these types of classes are also several ways that you can study the courses and take the exam to move to the next level.  Vendors will offer quick guides for technology areas that don’t take as much.  They will also offer self learning courses that will allow you to read the material and take the test without any help.  For those that are more interested in a different type of learning, online courses or courses at a local community college or university are also available.

If you are noticing the changes in technology, as well as realize you need this skill, then getting IT Certification for basic PC skills is a good place to start.

Many people use FTP to load files to their web servers but it can be used for much more than that. It can be used to transfer large files across the Internet.

The letters FTP stand for File Transfer Protocol. It allows you to transfer files from place to place. In fact, FTP is the fastest way to copy large files across the Internet. There are many sophisticated FTP client that you can use to get files to and from site hosts. There are several benefits to this method of FTP transferring.

FTP programs like Cute FTP are straightforward in using and highly effective. There are upload programs in FrontPage and Dreamweaver but they are basically used for loading up web-sites. Do yourself a favor and use FTP client software that specializes in moving files without the headache of trying to find out where your uploaded files went to.

Most of the modern FTP clients are very simple to use. You just launch the program, enter some basic information (such as the site address, account name and password) and connect. Once you are connected, you can usually just drag and drop files from your own hard drive to the site. Cute FTP is great for having a drag and drop menu.

You can also load documents, audio files, pictures and various programs without missing a beat. It also depends on how much space that you have in your host account. Many people are starting to store their basic files on their web hosting server instead of on their computer.

FTP is fast and efficient – It’s a great way to transfer data and store files. Also, many FTP clients are freeware. If you go to a search engine, just type in FTP Freeware and browse through some sites to see what they have.

The hard drive in our computers stores all data, and our computer could not function without it. Since hard drives are so important, a hard drive crash is without a doubt is a major crisis problem that someone could face on their computer.

Hard drive crashes can happen for a lot of reasons, and usually the owner is not to blame. Your hard drive is a magnetic disc that spins and has an extended arm hovering over it, to access any area, and collect the data. If the motor overheats and stops spinning or the arm fails to function, then your hard drive will crash and not be accessible.

Another way for your hard drive to crash is from corrupt files and viruses. Viruses come in many forms as spy ware, ad ware, in emails and many other places all over the web. I recommend a good virus protection program from McAfee or Norton to stop those viruses and prevent your hard drive from crashing.

Now let’s say your hard drive has crashed, how do you determine the problem and can it be fixed? Well determining whether the hard drive crash is mechanical of software related is actually pretty easy. The flashing light on front of your computer case, that blinks when the computer is busy, is a good tool to determine the problem. If you see the LED light flashing, but the computer will not start, then most likely it is a software related problem, which means an operating system glitch or a virus of some sort. Lucky for you this usually can be fixed and all of your files can be saved.

Worst case scenario is if you don’t see the LED light flashing in the front of your computer case, this means your hard drive has not activity which basically means it is a mechanical problem. A mechanical problem in your hard drive can be fixed, but it can get pretty expensive. It is cheaper to get a new hard drive then to fix it, but of course if you have important data stored on the broken hard drive that you must get back, then you really have no choice but to have a professional fix it. Your local computer store should have the expertise to repair it, but if not just ask them who can.

Overall, the best way to stop your hard drive from crashing is to not neglect it and take care of it.

When you first buy your computer, it seems quite fast. But with the passage of time and advancement in technology most PC users complain that the performance of these machines keep on deteriorating slowly. There are basically two low cost solutions that can effectively speed up your machine. And the best part about these two methods is that you can do them yourself.

The first method is to add more RAM to your computer. RAM stands for Random Access Memory. Increasing the RAM could increase the speed of your computer. But this is dependant on your system’s motherboard. For example, upgrading your computer from 128 megabytes to 256 megabytes or more can substantially increase its performance. The second solution to your problem would be to switch from IDE hard drives to SCSI. One of the reasons for slow functioning of a computer is the communications speed to and from your hard drives. And SCSI can help reduce this problem considerably.

However, if you don’t want to spend any more money on your old computer and don’t feel the need to upgrade it, then there are some other ways to increasing the speed of your computer at no cost. One method to a faster computer without spending any money would be to clean up your Windows registry.

The registry is a main part of your computer’s Operating System. With time, as you use Windows and install and uninstall programs, your registry will get bogged down. This is one of the reasons why your computer could be slow. So, if you can clean it up this problem can be solved. However, cleaning your registry off some software could do it more harm than good. If you’re trying to clean up your registry for the first time, you could seriously damage it in the process. So, before you venture out to do this, you need to do some research on the Internet and visit some online forums that can help you out.

Another way to considerably speed up your computer is by disabling unnecessary applications. The Windows software in your computer would have installed many applications, most of them you normally wouldn’t need. Sometimes too many active processes can reduce your computer’s speed. So, when you disable some of them you increase your computer’s speed. Also, disable unnecessary services that are used by Windows Start Up.

And last but not least you could delete your history, temporary files and cookies. Go to Internet explorer and click on Tools Menu and then Internet Options. But, all these solutions come with a cautionary statement: when you delete or disable anything that you’re not clear about, it’s best to do a little background research or seek the advice of an expert before you do so.

If you’re a business person that’s on the go and not into mobile computing systems, you may want to look into buying a laptop. While the price of laptops compared to desktops has shrunk recently, you will still pay slightly more for a laptop. With laptops reasonably difficult to expand or upgrade, it’s a good idea to add more memory or get a bigger hard drive at the time of purchase. Your system should have at least two USB 2.0 ports, as this will be the main way of connecting to external devices.

If you are a frequent traveler and want to use your laptop while flying, there are some other design issues you might want to consider. Widescreen laptops can be a hassle if you are in the coach section, as there is hardly enough room to open the machine. A system with external controls for volume and Wi-Fi can also be good, to avoid annoying other passengers or interfering with the aircrafts navigational system. For really long flights, a second battery is probably the most cost effective way of keeping your system up and running.

As laptops are more likely to be damaged or stolen while on the road, it is a good idea to have a backup plan. Do a regular backup so if something bad does happen, you don’t lose too much data. Make sure that your laptop comes with a built in DVD burner.  One DVD disc should be more than enough to store your work data. You could also use a CD burner, but you would probably need to carry multiple discs. If you only have a small amount of files you need to backup, a USB flash drive is just as sufficient.

Laptops that are on the road regularly are more likely to break down. So invest in a good quality carry case to limit any potential damage in transit, and always keep your backups up to date.

Most warranties these days are only twelve months, so if there is an extended warranty available, it may be worth taking up if you are constantly on the road. A good warranty policy is a good idea when investing in your laptop.
